This page contains a brief schedule of the reconstruction of the http://l10n.openoffice.org site.

Steps for the reconstruction (theory)

Step 1 - analyze the current site

The purpose of this step is to analyze the current content of http://l10n.openoffice.org.

Status:
In progress
Results so far:
The site consists of documents in various formats: html, pdf, od*, ... These documents cover various areas of the l10n project. Documents in other than html format should be converted to html or to wiki code, depending on their content - see Step 2.
More to be done:
Create a table listing all documents on the current l10n site. The table should contain following fields:
  • document name
  • brief description
  • document format (html, pdf, od*)
  • author
  • responsible person (the one who will take care of the document during the web reconstruction - it can be the author or someone else)
  • future status (what will happen with the document - see Step 2)
The table will be continuously updated as the website reconstruction goes on.

Step 2 - decide what to do with the current content

In this step it is necessary to decide what to do with the current content. There are several possibilities:

  • keep it on the l10n.openoffice.org site
The content will be kept on the site if it contains general information about the l10n project (documents focused on a specific task will be moved to the OOo wiki - see below). Non-html documents that will be kept on the l10n site should be converted to html, if possible.
  • move it to the OOo wiki
The content will be moved to the OOo wiki if it provides information about a very specific area or task. This applies especially to various howtos and similar documents.
  • update it
If the content is outdated, the author will be contacted and asked to provide an updated version. Then, the updated version will be either kept on the l10n.openoffice.org or moved to the OOo wiki.
  • remove it
Outdated content that cannot be updated will be removed from the site.
Status:
TBD

Step 3 - create the structure of the new l10n.openoffice.org site

The structure of the new l10n web pages will be based on the current site. However, some changes will be made for better clarity. The 3 clicks to get anywhere strategy will be used - means that once the user enters the l10n.openoffice.org site, he should be able to access any content by clicking no more than 3 links.

Status:
TBD

Step 4 - create data for the new site

Parts of the current content will be used in the new site, the rest of the content will be created from scratch. It will be necessary to create a list of areas that should be covered by the site and prepare the appropriate content.

Status:
TBD

Current site structure

The following tree shows the current structure of the site (when checked out from the CVS). Only documents (html, pdf, od*, sc*, csv, xml, txt) and directories are displayed, other files (such as images) are omitted.
