The Special group needs one further update. I cannot be sure which is which, between %grogegen and %kleingegen, so I left a note on this page. Since you have a working German version, and the skill to update the wiki, would you please check this out and make the necessary fix (and delete my note)? --TJ (Talk | Contribs) 11:53, 10 July 2010 (UTC)

Why %my ?

I tested your revisions to the math template (%mu -> %my, etc.) and they don't work, so I undid them.

I would very much like to know why you thought they did work.

Hello.
I don't know if it's maybe just in the German 3.2.1 Release, but here %MU, %mu, etc do not work, only %my, %MY .
Sincerly,
Spellbreaker
Hi, Spellbreaker,
Thank you very much for bringing this to somebody's attention. I will check this out with some of our German-speaking contributors, and let you know what I find.
I am reasonably sure that these entries for Greek letters are correct in English. If the German version is different, it may be on purpose (and the German version of the documentation should show that), or by accident (somebody needs to fix the code). --TJ (Talk | Contribs) 14:25, 6 July 2010 (UTC)
Thanks. I wonder if a Expression I create using %my will be rendered correctly in the english version of ooo.
I just saw, that there's also a symbol-set called "Spezial" (special) in ooo. There are symbols like "%und" ( and ) "%oder" (or) ... Shouldn't they be all in english language to stay portable between different Language Versions of OpenOffice? Because %und and %oder will not be recognized in ooo.org english language version?
Good questions; the answers are almost certainly bad. I have confirmation from another contributor on dev-doc that the German version is indeed different. As for me, "Ich bin Ausländer und spreche nicht gut Deutsch." The best I can do is to bring this to the attention of the translators, and I'm working on that. It's vacation season, so it may take a week or two. --TJ (Talk | Contribs) 09:23, 7 July 2010 (UTC)
(more) Okay, problem resolved, thanks to a discussion on the dev@documentation mailing list.
 • The names in the Greek and Special groups are localized for various languages. However, the symbols are recorded in the file in a universal (English) form, and translated appropriately when loaded into a particular localized version.
 • The user must type the localized names, so users should check their native-language documentation. However, the symbols themselves are available through the Catalog icon on the Math toolbar, and the (localized) name of the symbol should show when it is selected (just add a leading "%").
 • The German documentation is now up-to-date on the wiki. Somebody (probably me) will be adding a note to the English versions about all this.
Thanks again for raising this question. You have probably helped a lot of users. --TJ (Talk | Contribs) 23:44, 9 July 2010 (UTC)
