Dec 21 14:46:42 ---	kornbluth.freenode.net sets mode +s #oooscm
Dec 21 15:01:21 -->	kendy (n=kendy@nat/suse/x-1a1e06e88ad8f407) has joined #oooscm
Dec 21 15:01:36 <kendy>	Hi!
Dec 21 15:02:52 <blauwal>	Hi Jan
Dec 21 15:03:31 <blauwal>	Looks like the bazaar guys are already on vacation
Dec 21 15:04:32 <blauwal>	Anything new on your side?
Dec 21 15:07:00 <kendy>	Unfortunately no.
Dec 21 15:07:02 <kendy>	:-(
Dec 21 15:07:27 <kendy>	I have in my head already what to write into the usecase, but did not get to that :-(
Dec 21 15:07:39 <blauwal>	Same for me :-)
Dec 21 15:07:44 <kendy>	To put it actually 'on the paper' - into the wiki.
Dec 21 15:07:55 <kendy>	:-)
Dec 21 15:08:15 <kendy>	How went your -> bazaar conversion in the end?
Dec 21 15:08:18 <blauwal>	Had to tend my bugtracker this week. And we are still waiting for that bazaar import
Dec 21 15:08:45 <kendy>	So the guys are doing it in the end, not you, right?
Dec 21 15:09:01 <blauwal>	The bazaar guys were busy with their 1.0 release and I wasn't able to do the import, but didn't try hard
Dec 21 15:09:15 <kendy>	I see.
Dec 21 15:09:49 <blauwal>	Yeah, I'm not so much a python expert and all the known conversion methods need some tweaking here and there
Dec 21 15:10:14 <kendy>	Yes
Dec 21 15:10:58 <blauwal>	I will be here between Xmas and New Year for two days devoted just to make the conversion work.
Dec 21 15:11:11 <kendy>	I see.
Dec 21 15:11:25 <kendy>	I'll be away, so no #oooscm for me....
Dec 21 15:11:39 <blauwal>	Sure, there won't be a meeting that week
Dec 21 15:13:16 <kendy>	So - I guess nothing else for now?
Dec 21 15:13:20 <blauwal>	Well, we should reevaluate the situation with bazaar around mid of January. We should at least know by then if an import is possible otherwise we should proceed with git and subversion IMHO
Dec 21 15:13:44 <kendy>	Yes, sounds reasonable.
Dec 21 15:14:02 <blauwal>	Yes, that's it for this week, I think
Dec 21 15:14:04 <kendy>	I also hope that I'll be able to focus just on the git-related things then.
Dec 21 15:14:31 <blauwal>	I saw your blog about the startup stuff - nice!
Dec 21 15:14:43 <kendy>	Thanks :-)
Dec 21 15:15:31 <kendy>	It's interesting what one sees in the pmap output...
Dec 21 15:16:02 <blauwal>	Oh yes. And there is a lot of room for improvement :)
Dec 21 15:16:09 *	kendy would love to cut some of the KDE dependencies, the 2-3 sec difference between Gnome and KDE is embarrassing
Dec 21 15:17:16 <blauwal>	yes, I like KDE more than gnome so this is embarrassing ...
Dec 21 15:17:39 <kendy>	:-)
Dec 21 15:17:56 *	blauwal tends to disable system integration because of that
Dec 21 15:18:59 <kendy>	KIO eats too much resources, and it's just to ask for the exact mail client that is used... So usually kmail.
Dec 21 15:19:19 <kendy>	[And 2-3 trivial things like that.]
Dec 21 15:19:34 <kendy>	But in memory the footprint is like 2M, or something
Dec 21 15:19:48 <kendy>	[physical memory!]
Dec 21 15:20:03 <blauwal>	quite a bit for something that trivial
Dec 21 15:20:08 <kendy>	Yeah
Dec 21 15:20:43 <kendy>	Would access the configuration files directly, but that is not too nice :-(
Dec 21 15:20:54 *	kendy will talk to the KDE guys
Dec 21 15:21:06 <blauwal>	Some deep object hierachies just for reading the conf. files?
Dec 21 15:21:26 <kendy>	Not really.
Dec 21 15:22:00 <kendy>	It's mostly just dependencies in libraries, libKIO needs libwhatever, which needs libblah and libbleh, etc.
Dec 21 15:22:09 <kendy>	And each of them has some initalization code, etc.
Dec 21 15:22:19 <kendy>	So in the end, you spend 2 sec. doing nothing ;-)
Dec 21 15:22:23 <blauwal>	Oh, there is no low-level lib just for reading the configuration?
Dec 21 15:22:32 <kendy>	[nothing really important in that case]
Dec 21 15:22:49 <kendy>	blauwal: No that I know of :-(
Dec 21 15:23:11 <blauwal>	ah I see
Dec 21 15:23:59 <blauwal>	classical layering problem. We know a bit about that :)
Dec 21 15:24:18 <kendy>	I guess so :-)
Dec 21 15:25:04 <kendy>	OK
Dec 21 15:25:12 <blauwal>	I think we can close this meeting, next meeting then Jan. 4th. Happy Christmas and a good new year!
Dec 21 15:25:37 <kendy>	Yes, enjoy the Christmas time, and all the best in the New Year! :-)
Dec 21 15:25:46 <blauwal>	Bye
Dec 21 15:25:48 <kendy>	Good bye!
