Budapest City Tour & Visit to Memento Park

Date: August 31, 2010 (Tuesday)

Departure: 10 a.m.

Meeting point: Conference venue (CEU)

Agenda: You will be picked up at the conference venue by our English-speaking guide and led to the bus. During the guided tour you can enjoy the attractions Budapest is most famous for. On the Pest side you will pass by St. Stephen's Basilica, drive along Andrássy Boulevard (recognized as a World Heritage site), see the Opera House, Heroes‘ Square (photo stop), the Parliament Building and the Chain Bridge.

The bus will cross over the Danube to the Buda side: here you can stroll around the Castle District, see the Royal Palace, Matthias Church and the Fishermen’s Bastion. Afterwards the bus will take you up to Gellért Hill and the Citadel (photo stop at the panoramic terrace with a spectacular view of the city).

Following this sightseeing tour the bus will take you to the Southern part of the capital to visit Memento Park Budapest, where you can survey the gigantic monuments of the communist regime and the many statues removed from the squares of Budapest (like the tribute to Stalin and his famous-infamous boots). With the help of our professional guide, these singular surroundings will conjure you back to the world of the communist dictatorship.

The tour ends at approximately 2:00 p.m. and the bus willdrop you off at the conference venue (CEU).

Price: 30 € per person for tour with English-speaking guide; price includes entrance to Memento Park

The event will be confirmed with a minimum of 12 participants.

Excursion to the Danube Bend

Departure: 9 a.m.

Meeting point: Conference venue (CEU)

Agenda: You will be picked up at the conference venue by our English-speaking guide and led to the bus. First you travel to Esztergom, famous for its Royal and Ecclesiastic Residence that flourished in the Middle Ages. On the hilltop you can enjoy a dazzling vista from the vantage point of Hungary’s biggest Basilica. After a visit to the Cathedral we carry on to Visegrád, a former royal residence. Here we will stop for lunch in Renaissance Restaurant. Afterwards we will have a look at Salamon tower and the Citadel with its breathtaking panorama of the Danube Bend. On the way back to Budapest the bus will stop in Szentendre, where you will have time for a guided walk in the town famous for its artists and visit a museum honouring Margit Kovács, a famous Hungarian ceramist. There will be free time for shopping as well.

Arrival in Budapest at approximately 5:00 p.m. Drop-off point is the conference venue.

Price: 60 € per person (includes transportation, English-speaking guide; price includes entrance to the museum and lunch)

The event will take place with a minimum of 12 participants.

Meeting point: Conference venue (CEU)

Agenda: You will be picked up at the conference venue by our English-speaking guide and led to the bus, which will take you to the Hungarian Great Plain. First we travel to Kecskemét (guided walk), and continue further on to Lajosmizse – Tanyacsárda - an equestrian centre with traditional horse-breeding, where you will be greeted with a Hungarian welcome-drink and some home-made salted snacks. Following a performance by the famous Hungarian horsemen and a carriage ride, we invite you to have a pleasant Hungarian lunch in a ”Csárda” with wine, accompanied with gypsy music. After lunch – if you are still up for a short walk around the ranch – you can have a close look at the horses that are native to Hungary.

Arrival in Budapest at approximately 5:00 p.m. Drop-off point: conference venue.
