Can I center my text so that the text will flow both to the left and right if the cells are empty?

At least in OpenOffice.org 3.1 it is possible to enter text in a cell, then click the Align Center Horizontally icon in the Formatting toolbar.
It is possible in Calc for the text to flow across empty cells on the right side of a cell. However text flow outside of the left edge of a cell is not yet supported.
